About REACH

The REACH Regulation Nº1907/2006 of 18 December sets up a system for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) in the EU. For this purpose, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has been established in Helsinki, Finland. The regulation mandates that all substances manufactured or imported in quantities of 1 tonne or more per year must be registered unless explicitly exempted from the scope of registration. In addition, manufactures or importers of articles may also have REACH obligations. As the registration has to be submitted by a legal entity within the EU, the safest option for the non EU-manufacturer is to appoint an independent third party, the “Only Representative”, to take care of the registration duties. Please note: REACH registration is mandatory and failure to do so means that your company could lose any revenue from the EU market. Registration can be divided in two parts, pre-registration and registration. Pre-registration period began 1 June 2008 and continues until 1 December 2008.
